Summer Programs 2

Are you looking for a summer camp for your child, but would like it even better if it were a great educational experience too? We have the activities you would find at summer camp - weekly swimming and field trips, arts and crafts, sports and activities, and lots of fun - plus learning experiences through computers, cooking, drama, games, recreational reading, etc., so that it really is a complete summer enrichment program!

There are two kinds of full-day summer programs. Our general "Discovery Summer" enrichment program will have swimming, arts and crafts, team sports, field trips, and various activities, like in previous years, when we called it a "summer camp," but we're building up and emphasizing the discovery and enrichment dimension more now. Click on the link below for more details.

Join us on Saturday, April 18th for an Orientation and Tour given by the principal for prospective families.  The orientation will begin promptly at 10:00 am. We encourage current families to invite friends to attend who are looking for a new school for their children.  Don't forget to provide your friends with a NHA introductory card (located in the Main office or on the radiator in the lobby) with your name, which will entitle you to a 5% tuition rebate for the first year if they enroll.

Youth Summit

YOUTH SUMMIT ON TECHNOLOGY

SATURDAY, APRIL 18, 2008

Henry J. Wise High School
Upper Marlboro, Maryland
http://www.patriots-ttc.org/youthsummit.html

General information:  The Youth Summit on Technology is Patriots' original and signature event.  It is now attended by over 500 students each year and a growing number of parents.  We accept students from 5th grade through high school. The purpose of the Summit is to get students excited about the possibility of college, study and careers in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics.

Program: Morning program:  The Summit program starts with a Mix and Mingle Breakfast, with a keynote speaker and other speakers.  This is attended by school and elected officials among others. It is followed by a full schedule of workshops on technology and career topics.  Simultaneously, there are parent workshops on finding the money and resources to pay for college and on financing college through federal agencies that provide employment during and after college. The workshop presenters are from schools, government, and high-tech corporations.  The lunch program follows. There are exhibits open during the breakfast and lunch programs.

Computer-building competition: During the afternoon, there is a computer-building competition open to four-member teams. All 5th to 12th grade students are eligible.  There is an entrance fee of $40.  You can enter as a team or Patriots will assign you to a team.  The team that builds the computer fastest wins. The members of the winning team receive a Lap Top computer. You do not have to know how to do it before you enter. Patriots provides instructions to all participants on the previous three Saturdays.

Patro-Tech Game Show:  There is also a Patrotech Game Show, in Jeopardy format, which is always great fun.  There are eight, three-member high school teams who will participate in this competition.   If you are interested in participating, please contact the Patriots.

The teams answer questions from a panel of high-tech professionals. There is an entrance fee. Each member of the winning team will win a computer.  About four weeks before the Summit, each team is given 200 questions to study.

Fashion/Talent Show:  Students will participate in a fashion/talent show.  All members are eligible to participate.  If you are interested in being one of "spot light performers" please contact the Patriots.

Gifts:  All students receive nice event bags with promotional items from different companies, plus Summit T-shirts.  There are also door prizes.

Business and government support:  The Youth Summit is made possible by paid sponsorships from government and corporations. About 50-60 companies are represented in some way at this event.  There is a program booklet that recognizes the participation of all sponsors and other participating organizations and volunteers.

Fees:   Registration fee for Youth Summit is $25 for member's/$35 non-Members
Registration fee after Mach 31st $35 and On-Site Registration $40
Parent Registration $10 (Includes Registration, Breakfast and Lunch)
